One thing that I have learned as I have gotten older and much wiser is that life happens to be finite! So, we drove three hours to spend time with my dad for Father’s Day! As I have dealt with death in my profession, I have resolved to make the most of every moment in life. At times we get caught up in the daily grind, we forget that the most important thing in our life is our relationships.
We have nothing in life if we have nobody to share it with!
Although the week has been crazy, finishing with moving… starting a new job…and buying a car, and trying to brush up on all my “life saving skills” to prepare for my kicks to hit the floor running in ER next week, we were determined to place our stress behind us and hit the road! I wanted to make sure that my dad knew he was important! And on a selfish note…spend time with my mom! We enjoyed taking in some nature off of the back deck, enjoyed some locale pizza fare, and lounged. Because we haven’t seen my family in a couple of weeks, the time spent together was refreshing. Sometimes it is just nice to simply be. “Be in the moment.” Let me tell you, the happiness on my parents face because we “simply arrived” was equally satisfying.
The other awesome aspect of our little road trip was the fact that we (hubby and I) got to spend time together without the stress of work, internet or television. We even took a blast in the past and reminisced with a drive by of our old home. The uninterrupted time allowed us to set some goals and a vision for any possible new endeavors. Sometimes these moments filled with conversation are enough to reignite optimism and a joy for life. Even though we are frazzled from three hours in a car, we spent time together and enjoyed every minute of it!
